Sally was driving home from one of her business trips in Northern Arizona when she saw an elderly Navajo woman walking on the side of the road.

As the trip was a long and quiet one, she stopped the car and asked the Navajo woman if she would like a ride.

With a silent nod of thanks, the woman got into the car.

Resuming the journey, Sally tried in vain to make a bit of small talk with the Navajo woman. The old woman just sat silently, looking intently at everything she saw, studying every little detail, until she noticed a brown bag on the seat next to Sally.

‘What in bag?’ asked the old woman.

Sally looked down at the brown bag and said, ‘It’s a bottle of wine. I got it for my husband.’

The Navajo woman was silent for another moment or two. Then speaking with the quiet wisdom of an elder, she said:
‘Good trade…..’

I didn’t get many, but here’s a couple. We got a whole 0.38″! Hey, that’s enough to bring businesses and schools in the Memphis area to a grinding halt!

It just started, and it’s really coming down. By Miss’ippi standards anyway.

Ok, here’s the latest personal skinny from Casa Mad Cow.

Austin, the Mad Calf, had surgery and is doing very well. He’s definitely well on the road to recovery. Now the plan is to get him well and back in school. He’s been doing homebound schooling since October, so going back to school for him is going to take some serious adjusting.

And I think now that if I had to get “workforce reduced”, at least it came at a good time. It freed me up to do all this driving to and from Nashville to take care of the dude. And it made it possible to take care of him with all his crazy medicine/drainage hours.

So we’re doing well, and many thanks to everyone that helped out and those of you wishing us well and praying for us.

Banga traded to Texas

January 5, 2009 - 9:03 PM

HIDALGO - Topher Scott, Matt Byrnes and whoever becomes the two future considerations the Killer Bees acquired from Texas on Monday for Travis Banga will have to have quite an impact for people to forget the truly bizarre circumstances which brought them to the Rio Grande Valley.

Coach Chris Brooks said Monday last Tuesday, the day Robin Bouchard left the team and forced it to start that night’s game with just 13 skaters, he asked Banga about his relationship with Dennis Maxwell and whether he could “cohabitate” with his teammate from last season. Brooks said Banga said “yes. If that’s what’s best for the team, then that’s what’s best for the team.”

But Banga’s answer changed Wednesday, after Maxwell returned and practiced with the team for the first time. Banga then went home, where he talked with his family and decided that it was time for him to leave, leading to the now-former RGV forward asking for a trade.
