Thank goodness my BFF Angela (I know, BFF, it’s like I’m 12 again), wanted to get together. I’ve been seriously bummed and I needed some serious ovary-buddy time. So we decided to do dinner and a movie and I figured we’d make it a full-blown estrogen fest and see “Mamma Mia” or something. She shocked me and wanted to see “Dark Knight”. YAY! I have yet to get to finish seeing it all. So I finally got to see the end! And I felt a lot better because there were two sets of parents there that had to leave with their kids. I was feeling pretty lousy for taking Small Fry thinking it was safe just because it had the PG-13 rating. Next time I will definitely not trust a rating like that!

WARNING: There might be a spoiler or two here.  So don’t read if you don’t want me to ruin some part of “The Dark Knight” for you.

So we go see “The Dark Knight” Saturday. It’s good.  I’m totally immersed in the movie but Small Fry is a little scared so somewhere in the second hour she gets scared and gets in my lap.  Nothing too graphic, but a LOT of violence that you don’t see.  It is scarier than most Batman movies, but I like that.  Small Fry is not so thrilled.

She’s already scared, then the Joker turns Harvey Dent into Two Face. If you haven’t seen it yet, this Two Face is about a million times better than the Tommy Lee Jones’ Two Face. At least the face/scarring stuff is better. As far as the character, I couldn’t tell you. This is where the story turns sad.

As soon as you see Two Face in the hospital, looking way cool with half a face, Small Fry turns to me and starts crying and asking to leave.  So of course, because I’m the mommy and she’s breaking my heart, I go with her.  We leave the boys and other parental units in our group in the movie, because no point in ruining it for everyone.  That and the boys already cause her so much grief, why give them more to harass her about?

So she and I go to the lobby, hopefully to save me some future bucks on any future therapy bills we might incur.  She’s happy she’s out of there, but feeling guilty for making me leave.  I tell her it’s fine and we sit and talk and play games.  Her psyche is fine, mine is a little blue.

The family comes out, talking about how fabulous it is, and now I’m trying to figure out a time I can sneak out to re-see it.  Anyone wanna go?

Warning: there are a few spoilers lurking in this post, so if you don’t want me ruining any of the Hulk for you, don’t read any further.

This weekend we managed to get out to see The Incredible Hulk.  I don’t care what anyone says, this is an amazing movie.  Yes, it beat the pants off the last Hulk movie, which wasn’t hard to do.  But this movie was so much better, it’s giving Iron Man a run for it’s money. And yes, Tony Stark does make an appearance in this, setting the stage for some future Iron Man/Hulk action (I can’t wait).  Norton pulled off playing Banner and though I’m showing my age, I love the fact that this is so much more like the TV show.  It pulls the best parts from the comic and combines it with the way Banner is always on the run.  Both those elements were missing from the last film.  And, for the testosterone driven, this movie is non-stop action.  It managed to have plenty of plot for those of us that care, and tons of action.  That other Hulk movie was all story, no action and this one was the exact opposite!

With the release of two such great superhero/comic book movies this year, I’m thinking that this might be the year that makes me want to see movies in the theater again.  And I am definitely going to have to revisit my Top 10 List!

hulk.jpgOk, I forgot to add yesterday that I’m hoping, big time, that The Incredible Hulk winds up on my Top 10 list of comic book hero movies. I think Edward Norton is an amazing actor and I’m optimistic that this flick can help us all forget that other Hulk movie.
